SHIPPING PALLET CONTAMINATION STATEMENT

Baxa Corporation manufactures and distributes medical devices worldwide, and must meet international standards for product safety and intercontinental shipping. Recently, a significant event was featured in the news that resulted in the recall of more than six million bottles of contaminated drug product. The suspected cause of the contamination was the breakdown of a chemical used to treat the wooden pallets on which the product cartons shipped. An estimated one to two billion wooden pallets traverse the US daily, moving goods of all kinds. Information on the product recall can be referenced at http://www.fda.gov/ICECI/EnforcementActions/WarningLetters/ucm197811.htm.

Baxa wooden pallets must be free of harmful preservatives and other hazardous substances. We use heat-treated, kiln-dried wooden pallets to control for infestation and mold growth. According to our supplier, the pallet lumber does not contain the fumigant 2,4,6-tribromoanisole or the flame retardant tribromophenol. Our pallets are also ISPM-15 (International Phytosanitary Measure) certified.
