Now, a unique new system is available specifically for enteral feeding. The Baxa Exacta-Med® Enteral Dispensers, with the VIASYS MedSystems CORFLO® Anti-IV Enteral Feeding System, combine to form a dedicated system that prevents the wrong-route administration of non-IV fluid errors highlighted in the Alert. The first dispensers designed only for enteral feeding, Baxa Exacta-Med® Enteral Dispensers are available individually packaged in 20, 35 and 60 mL sizes.

Historically, gastric tubes used for neonatal and pediatric enteral nutrition support and oral liquid medication administration have incorporated luer fittings to allow use of hypodermic syringes to access the tube. Baxa enteral dispensers feature a unique dispenser tip that cannot connect to a luer needle or needleless IV system. Unique coloring and markings make them the safest choice for enteral fluid drug delivery, particularly in pediatric and neonatal applications where the majority of the oral and enteral doses are provided through a gastric tube.

The CORFLO Anti-IV Enteral Feeding System is the first to promote safe connections for enteral feeding. The system features all non-luer connections and is designed to accept only a dedicated enteral syringe. Therefore before Anti-IV, although a safer alternative—the oral, non-luer tip dispenser—existed, it was essentially impossible to avoid the potentially devastating safety risk of misconnection of a luer-tipped syringe containing enteral liquid to a parenteral intravenous access line.
